Treating Protein C Deficiency

Description:

Title:

Recombinant Thrombin-Thrombomodulin Fusion Protein

Category:

Diagnostic - Therapeutic

NCS:

Inventors: Barranco-Medina, Di Cera, Pozzi

Summary:

This invention discloses a novel technology for the manufacture of biopharmaceuticals and specifically thrombin-thrombomodulin fusion proteins with unique ability to activate Protein C in vitro and in vivo. The fusion proteins were obtained by fusing wild-type or mutant thrombin with a fragment of a receptor protein to produce a specific, fast, and cost-effective Protein C activator. This technology could be utilized to 1) replace a snake venom enzyme in Protein C diagnostic assay kits, 2) produce recombinant aPC for biotechnology applications, and 3) serve as a new generation of anticoagulants.
